IbanSwift does one thing: it reads the bank code out of an IBAN and returns the SWIFT/BIC code of the institution that issued it. No account, no sign-up, no upsell.

IBAN structure is defined by ISO 13616 and published in the IBAN registry. Bank identifier codes are defined by ISO 9362. We hold the structural rules for every country that has adopted IBAN, and resolve bank codes against an institution register.

There are limits worth knowing. Not every country uses IBAN — the United States, Canada, Australia and Japan use other schemes entirely. And a bank code can map to more than one BIC when an institution runs separate branches on the network. When that happens we return the head-office BIC and say so.
